The Department of Telugu organized the 196th Birth Anniversary Celebrations of Mahatma Jyothirao Pule on 11-04-2022 in the College. Principal, Dr. P. Srinivasarao, speaking on the occasion said that Jyothirao Pule struggled hard for the eradication of untouchability, caste system and emancipation of women. Mrs. N. Manimala, Lecturer in Botany, hailed Savitribai Pule, the wife of Jyothirao Pule, who was the first woman teacher who strove hard to educate the masses and the down trodden people. Mr. B. Srinivasarao, Head, Department of English, opined that in recognition of Jyothirao Pule’s lifelong service to the upliftment of the marginalized section of people, he was given the title “Mahatma” on 11-05-1888. Since then, he is called Mahatma Jyothirao Pule. Dr. Syed Mir Hassim, Director, IQAC, observed that he fought against child marriages, brought in several social reforms and upheld his altruistic nature. Head, Department of Telugu, G. Srinivas, said that Jyothirao Pule envisioned a society free from caste and religious discriminations. Dr. B. Sarasvathi, Lecturer in Telugu, said that he is known for providing education to the hyphenated individuals, women and many needy. She also said that the couple, Mahatma Jyothirao Pule and Savitribai Pule constructed a home for widows and the first school for girls in the country. Staff and students took part in the event and made it a grand success.
